Eliza Baxter is a 2026 intern with the Research Experience for Community College Students (RECCS) program, led by the CIRES Center for Education, Engagement, and Evaluation (CEEE). This summer, she is doing fieldwork and analyzing data to understand how plant traits affect flammability. At Front Range Community College, she is studying civil engineering and hopes to minor in meteorology. Baxter loves to travel — and she is passionate about mentoring and helping others.

What are you studying with the RECCS program?

I am a student researcher analyzing data, [doing] fieldwork, and understanding how plant traits affect flammability.

What are you studying in school?

I’m studying civil engineering and working towards a master’s degree in bridge design. I have also recently discovered I have a huge interest in meteorology and hope to minor in it.

What are you most passionate about professionally?

To become a mentor and help others.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An architect.
