Research Interests
I am an associate scientist within the Assimilation and Verification Innovation Division (AVID) of the NOAA Global Systems Laboratory (GSL). My work is with the Forecast Impact and Quality Assessment Section (FIQAS) team, where we evaluate aviation weather products and perform core research to investigate techniques and data sources for forecast verification.
My work covers a range of things. We do routine and sometimes niche assessments of aviation weather forecast products and observing systems to determine their accuracy and usefulness and provide feedback to the product developers so they can improve their systems. I build data pipelines to efficiently provide forecast and observation data for our team than can be used for such assessments. I also engineer software for our team to be able to access and analyze data rapidly and robustly, which sometimes includes building front-end software for interactive visualization.
My favorite part about working for CIRES is being a mentor for the RECCS summer internship program!
