Bianca Adler
Research Associate
- PhD at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Karlsruhe, Germany
- Study of Meteorology at University of Karlsruhe, Germany
Research Interests
Dr. Bianca Adler is a Research Scientist CIRES at the University of Colorado Boulder affiliated with NOAA's Physical Sciences Laboratory. Her research focus lies on the physical processes in the boundary layer over different types of surfaces, such as mountainous terrain. She is using meteorological observations along with numerical simulations to advance the understanding of boundary layer processes. Dr. Adler is working with a variety of ground based in situ and remote sensing instruments such as infrared spectrometers and Doppler lidars and has participated at several field campaigns around the world. She studied meteorology at the University of Karlsruhe and earned her PhD at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany.
Current Research
Current projects of Dr. Adler include the SPLASH field campaign in the East River Watershed in Colorado focusing on the mountainous water cycle, the PERiLS and VORTEX-SE campaigns in the south-eastern United States where she focuses on the boundary layer conditions in the pre-convective severe weather environment, and the WFIP3 campaign in the Pacific North-West investigating aspects of the marine boundary layer relevant for offshore renewable wind energy. She is part of a renewable energy research program called ASRE (Atmospheric Science for Renewable Energy) within NOAA and is involved in PSL’s BIL funded Fire-Weather Boundary Layer Research.
