Brian Carroll
Research Associate
Research Interests
Dr. Brian Carroll is a CIRES Research Scientist affiliated with the NOAA Chemical Sciences Laboratory (CSL). His research answers questions about planetary boundary layer processes affecting air quality, wildfires, wind energy, and more. As a member of the Atmospheric Remote Sensing group within CSL, he participates in field campaign planning and operations; Doppler lidar deployment, algorithms, and data analysis; and interprets the data alongside other instrumentation and models to answer science questions. Dr. Carroll earned his PhD in Atmospheric Physics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Current Research
Current projects of Dr. Carroll include the CalFiDE field campaign leveraging observations of wildfire smoke plumes and fire-affected winds from mobile platforms, the CUPiDS campaign focusing on summertime air quality and the associated dynamics around New York City, and the AMED campaign measuring winds to help quantify oil and gas emissions in Colorado. Upcoming projects include a summertime ozone study in the Salt Lake City region in 2024.
