Research Interests

Grace Bennett-Pierre, Ph.D., is a CIRES Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Education, Engagement and Evaluation (CEEE) and NOAA’s Science on a Sphere (SOS). She completed a doctorate in Developmental Psychology with a Quantitative Concentration at Temple University and a BA in Psychology from Wellesley College. She has previously studied how caregivers’ beliefs and behavior shape children’s challenge-seeking, and how non-rigid spatial skills support STEM and arts learning, with a particular focus on gendered spatial experiences. While in graduate school, Grace was a Temple Public Policy Lab Fellow. In her role at CEEE, Grace will research how and what people learn most effectively from SOS, particularly in informal learning contexts.

Learning and climate change action with NOAA’s Science on a Sphere” -  She is proposing a series of studies to: We propose a series of studies to: 1) Study SOS’s efficacy for teaching foundational skills for STEM learning (spatial thinking, data literacy) and content knowledge about climate change in both informal and formal learning contexts, 2) Expand on prior work to develop SOS as a tool to promote climate change action, and 3) Understand how learning with SOS might change over the course of development – for example, how to adapt datasets and their presentation for learners of different ages (6-12th graders).
