2024 -Contributions to CIRES teaching Curriculum” - During this sabbatical, Dr. Oliveras Menor will work with scientists from the Earth Lab/ESIIL with the goals to: 1) Contribute to CIRES teaching and mentoring curriculum by delivering guest lectures on impacts of altered fire regimes in tropical and subtropical ecosystems, and supervising graduate students projects; 2) Develop a proof-of-concept and write a shared proposal to study the adaptation and responses to climate change and altered fire regimes on newly arid and mesic systems. Such a cutting-edge proposal can only be successful if we can attribute causality to climate change and fire impacts, and decipher their interactive effects. To accomplish this, one needs to use innovative tools and the latest advances in data science, such as state-of-the-art opensource techniques for processing cross-scale remote sensing data and cyberinfrastructure for advanced team science, which Earth Lab and ESIIL can provide. 3) A third objective of Dr. Oliveras Menor’s sabbatical is to learn workflows to implement FAIR (findability, accessibility, interoperability, reusability) principles to data science in her research group. ESIIL and the Earth Lab are world-leading experts in this area.
