Department of Geological Sciences

Research Interests

Simon is an undergraduate researcher. He works in the Sheehan Geophysics Group studying distributed acoustic sensing at the FORGE Geothermal site. He also works with the department of geological sciences snow hydrology group run by Dr. Eric Small gathering snow water equivalent measurements during the winter month to compare to computer models tracking the Colorado snow pack. Simon works at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in the Biogeochemistry and Mineralogy of Redox-active Environmental Systems (BMRES) laboratory run by Dr. Kate Campbell and Tyler Kane.

Current Research

Currently, Simon is working on a volcanology and geochemistry research project involving samples from the Galapagos Archipelago. His work entails quantitative x-ray diffraction, isotope geochemistry, petrologic analysis to understand the evolution of the island of Santa Cruz and the overall geology of the Galapagos.

In the winter, he works doing field work for the snow hydrology cohort gathering snow water equivalent measurements in Crested Butte.
