Remote sensing applications to the ice sheets
Field work and field sensors in Antarctica
Science coordination for the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration
Current Research
Field, remote sensing, and modelling study on processes controlling the retreat and increasing outflow of Thwaites Glacier in West Anrtaerctica, as part of the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration (ITGC; see www.thwaitesglacier.org);
Investigating the recent retreat and renewed acceleration of glaciers on the eastern Antarctic Peninsula (Larsen B region), supporting a Ph.D. candidate's dissertation. Field work is planned for February 2024
Continuing study of the controlling factors for ultra-cold events in East Antarctica (the coldest surface temperatures on Earth) and their relationship with GHG concentrations in the atmosphere.
Applicaitons of Landsat visible, near-infrared, and thermal image data to polar research.
