We are Water STEM Day Celebration
On May 10, the CIRES Center for Education, Engagement, and Evaluation’s (CEEE) We are Water team hosted an STEM Day Celebration at The Powerhouse in Durango, Colorado. This event honored the National Science Foundation's 75th anniversary and marked the opening of the We are Water traveling exhibit at The Powerhouse. 244 visitors attended the event.
“We had a beautiful day and the performance by the Ute Cultural Center was really special and beautiful,” said Tory Nau, the We are Water program manager. “It was amazing to see the local Durango community come together and celebrate water and connections.”
The We are Water STEM Day Celebration included:
- Community celebration and exhibit opening
- Water bead bracelet activity, story walk, and more, hosted by CEEE
- Water cycle activity, hosted by CoCoRaHS
- Beaver and river restoration activity, hosted by Mesa Verde National Park
- Water-related button activity, hosted Durango Public Library
- Macroinvertebrate activity, hosted by the Mountain Studies Institute
- Local water films, hosted by the San Juan Water Conservancy District
- Riparian water table, hosted by the Colorado Division of Water Resources
- Erosion table, hosted by The Powerhouse
- Dance performance, led by the Ute Cultural Center
- Educator workshop
- Film festival
