Research Interests
Laura is a third-year PhD student whose enthusiasm for chemistry has found the perfect home in Dr. Eve Hinckley's Environmental Biogeochemistry Group. Outside the lab, she enjoys playing frisbee, cooking, and spending time with her best friend's dog.
Current Research
Sulfur runoff from agricultural fields can have numerous environmental effects, yet these effects are not well understood. My research cuts across many fields, incorporating chemistry, microbiology, and geology to develop methods for quantifying and visualizing sulfate reduction within agricultural soils. My work will help us understand and mitigate the effects of agricultural sulfur use on crops, work that is especially important since these inputs continue to increase globally.
2024 Graduate Student Research Award topic: Investigating small-scale soil processes to determine the fates and consequences of agricultural sulfur at regional scales
