Becca Edwards, CIRES DEI Director, and Kari Bowen, Program Manager for the Cooperative Institute for Earth System Research and Data Science Cooperative Agreement, have designed a training for CIRES employees and their CU Boulder and federal colleagues on "Effective Bystander Practices." Everyone is welcome to join.

In this workshop, we will discuss how to recognize workplace bullying and microaggressions, and explore “the bystander effect” which explains why people often choose not to intervene. Participants will engage with specific scenarios, determining personal and unique ways to interrupt these harmful moments. We will learn the “calling in” technique, which intends to bring accountability without anger, blaming or shaming. There is commitment to building the relationship and a belief that each party will listen and value different perspectives.

*The content for this training will be complete in one hour. The facilitators will be available for an extra 30 minutes after the training for more discussion and questions.
