CIRES/NCEI Digital Elevation Model Developer/GIS Technician

The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado at Boulder conducts collaborative research with NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) on the archive, analysis, processing, and dissemination of data and integrated models describing Earth’s geophysical environment. This collaboration includes geospatial technology for global integrated observing and data management systems, improved integration and modeling of geophysical data, enhanced web discovery and delivery of data and integrated models, and long-term data stewardship. This CIRES position is co-located with NOAA NCEI staff at the David Skaggs Research Center, 325 Broadway, Boulder, Colorado.

NCEI develops integrated bathymetric–topographic digital elevation models (DEMs) in support of NOAA’s coastal inundation modeling efforts and according to specific funding agency requirements. The successful candidate will be instructed on DEM development including processing elevation data, evaluating the DEM products, and writing technical documentation for the products. It is expected that the successful candidate will take on more duties with experience and develop the skill set to work independently.
