Lab/Field Assistant - Limnology

The Center for Limnology conducts field studies throughout the year on lakes and streams in Colorado. Analytical work is performed in the Center’s laboratory facilities, which are located in the CIRES building. For more information on the Center for Limnology, see

We seek to hire a lab/field assistant to start in May, 2018 (up to 40 hr/week during summer; continued employment during the 2019-2020 school year also is possible). Duties may include field work (collection of field measurements and water samples from lakes and streams), preparation of samples and standards for laboratory analyses, microscopy, washing glassware, and operation of basic laboratory equipment (e.g., spectrophotometer, analytical balance).

A valid driver’s license, a good driving record, the ability to lift 40 pounds, and the ability to swim are required to participate in field work. Prior laboratory experience is not necessary, but some chemistry coursework or other lab experience is preferred. Eligibility for work-study aid also is preferred. This position is intended for someone with an interest in aquatic sciences and a desire for practical experience prior to graduate school or a professional position.

Important information

Pay rate: $12.50-16.50/hr; depending on experience

Schedule: Mon - Fri; typically normal business hours, except field days; up to 40 hr/week during summer; continued employment during the 2019-2020 school year possible.
