New CIRES-led research outlines how beavers impact critical zone processes in river systems and demonstrates the importance of integrating animal behavior into critical zone science. The work, led by PhD Student Clifford Adamchak, presents a conceptual model of the scales of influence beavers have on the critical zone and identifies research opportunities for future work.

Conceptual model of the scales of influence (far left column) beavers have on the critical zone. The center left column depicts landscapes at different scales without beavers and the center right column with beavers. Example research opportunities are highlighted in the far-right column.
